You’re already doing the basics on social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Pinterest and LinkedIn, but how can you make your use of social media even more effective?
Check out these tips for giving your online networking that extra zing!
Twitter – Tweet more effectively
- Ask interesting questions to engage potential customers.
- Listen to what your current clients are saying. If people are tweeting about your business or products, take note. Also take note of what potential clients are tweeting about. Check out your competitors’ followers for an added insight.
- Respond to tweets, whether they’re positive or negative, as quickly as you can.
Facebook – Improve your engagement on Facebook
- Acknowledge knew ‘likes’ with a thank you.
- Provide fresh and interesting content – give your fans something of value. But don’t bombard them.
- Post frequently (not too frequently, you don’t want to annoy your likers!) but don’t ignore your page for days on end. Subscribers will be expecting regular, fresh content. Stagger the times that you post to reach more fans.
Flickr/Pinterest – Pick your images cleverly
- Post compelling images on blogs, websites and photo-sharing sites. Research shows that while text is still the first thing that people see on the page, the image is what encourages them to read on.
- For optimum results, use relevant keywords in your captions and file names when posting pics.
LinkedIn – Use smarter networking to build your connections
- If you want more people to connect with you on LinkedIn, add a LinkedIn follow button to your website.
- Join targeted groups to increase your network of relevant connections within your industry or area.
- Optimise your profile – use relevant keywords to make sure you are more likely to come up in searches. Shout about your business and make sure you include links to your website and blog. Use a profile photo that reflects who you are.
- Update regularly – one simple way of doing this is by linking existing Twitter/blog feeds to your profile.
