Direct marketing via email can be a great way to win over prospects and gain news business. But how do you write the perfect marketing email or the winning email sales letter?
Take a look at my top tips for email copywriting, and you could soon be penning the perfect piece, and winning new business…
Top Tips For Writing The Perfect Marketing Email
1. Write a great subject line
The subject line needs to be something that catches the reader’s attention, and compels them to open the email and read on. However, try not to make it too much of a hard sell, or you will put your readers off. Be as straight forward and direct as possible.
2. Avoid spam keywords
You want to ensure your email doesn’t end up in a spam folder, so avoid too many capitalised words repeated several times, especially those followed by exclamation marks. Aside from potentially ending up in a spam folder, it’s likely to be a turn-off for the reader too.
3. Tell the reader what you are offering
Make it clear what exactly you are offering the reader. This will make sure they read on.
4. Keep the email (fairly) short and sweet
People read differently online compared to how they read a print document – that is, they tend to scan the screen. So make sure your email is not too long, and break up the text with bullet points, headlines, sub-headlines, etc.
5. Get the tone right
Emails tend to be less formal than printed letters, so keep your tone conversational, without being over-familiar.
6. Include a clear call to action
Make sure the reader knows exactly what it is you’d like them to do after reading the email. If possible, you should include a link for them to click on to take them to your website.
