Copywriting 101 – toilet paper advertising

Posted by on August 10, 2012
A very different copywriting campaign this week from a creative team in Australia. I wonder if any UK copywriters have ever done anything similar? To discuss the awkward issue of urinary tract infections, ad agency Publicis Mojo, in Brisbane, used a relatively new media channel: toilet paper advertising.

The ad agency explains: “Our client’s product, Bio-Organics Cranberry, provides relief from the pain and discomfort of cystitis. Urinary tract infections are quite awkward things to discuss, so we needed to find a way to talk to women in private.

“So we invented a new media channel: toilet paper advertising. We found a special printing company in Illinois, USA, which has the technology to print on ultra-fine stock like toilet paper.

“We provided them with a design that reminds women of the pain of cystitis and, within weeks, we had installed our toilet paper ads in female lavatories across Queensland – in pubs, office buildings and beauty salons.”

What do you think of the ads? Would you be impressed with this kind of advertising on your loo roll, or not? Leave a comment and let me know.
